Is Notebook A Better Choice Than Desktop ?

Computer v laptop

Laptops are without a doubt more popular than full-size computers nowadays, you only have to go to one of the big name computer stores to see this. Most do not even offer standard computers at the moment. That being said though; just because laptops are more popular does not actually mean that they are the right choice for you. In fact; a computer is going to be the best choice in most situations. Let me explain the pros and cons of each.

Obviously a laptop is portable and a full-size computer is not. This means that if you are after something that you can lug from location to location (perhaps as a work computer or because you are a student) then a laptop is without a doubt the best choice for you. In fact; a computer is probably not going to work here at all.

The downside to a laptop is that they are often severely underpowered compared to computers. This is in part down to the fact that there is not a whole lot of space inside of a laptop. This makes cooling huge components incredibly hard. You will struggle to find a decent laptop at an affordable price which is able to cope with ‘high quality’ gaming and tasks which may require many ‘memory heavy’ applications to be open at once.

I am not going to lie to you here; there are some out there, but you may be looking to spend thousands of pounds on a decent top-notch laptop. Do you really want that when a PC, often at half the price and of a far higher specification will do? Thought not!
Laptops are also quite expensive compared to computers. In fact; computers are often a fraction of the price of a similar specification laptop.

They work out a whole lot cheaper in the long run too. If you purchase a laptop then it is unlikely you will ever be able to upgrade it unless you purchase a new one (highly annoying!), and you almost certainly will find computer repairs difficult and cost prohibitive, even if you work with a professional computer service company.

Computers on the other hand can have each and every component of them swapped out over time. This means that you could essentially upgrade your computer whenever you wish.
Of course; the choice is yours. If you want something that is small and portable then a laptop may be the way to go. If you are going to be hanging around your home mostly then a full-size computer is probably going to be the most affordable option for you.
