Ransomware is software that allows an attacker to gain control of a PC and encrypt the user’s data and from then on demand a removal fee from the user. A typical bogus message is usually displayed on the screen claiming “You must pay or you will not be allowed access to your computer again”. Ransomware has become a more common way for exploiters/cyber criminal’s extorting payments from victims.

 

Malware:

Malware is known as a malevolent program and it’s defined as a computer program or source code designed to have undesirable or harmful effects. The word Malware is actually a general term and it can include Viruses, Worms, Trojan horses and Adware. The main purpose and mechanism of action of a malware usually varies but the most important fact to note here is that; a malware is any form of software that is harmful and damaging by nature. Malwares are used to covertly gain access to a computer system without the owner/user’s consent, create backdoor and entry points to provide access into the system, destroying important data and corrupting system files etc.

Most of these computer infections can operate covertly for a very long period of time and as such manual detection might be very difficult to do but some notable signs of an infected computer includes; Longer boot/start-up time, Increased processor load and decreased system performance, random and intermittent system/software shutdown and start-ups, Blue screen system crashes and driver malfunctions etc.
